Expert Technical FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Power Skiving replace my slow gear shaping process?

Yes. By switching to our W-Series, you can utilize cutting speeds of 120–300 m/min. Unlike the reciprocating stroke of shaping, Power Skiving is a continuous process that typically increases production throughput by 3x to 5x for internal gears while maintaining DIN AA precision.

Do you have a solution for internal gears with interference angles?

Absolutely. We recommend our Conical W-Series cutters. Their specific conical geometry creates the necessary clearance to machine gears with small cross-axis angles (interference angles) without colliding with the workpiece shoulder.

Can the W-Series machine external gears close to interference shoulders (Cluster Gears)?

Yes. This is a key advantage over skiving. The Conical W-Series design allows for a flexible cross-axis angle, enabling you to machining stepped gears right next to a larger gear or shaft shoulder where a standard large-diameter hob would physically interfere.

How can I prevent chipping on solid carbide skiving cutters?

Rigidity is key. The W-Series uses a high-hardness Tungsten-Cobalt substrate, which requires a stable machining environment. We strongly recommend using rigid, direct-drive CNC spindles to prevent vibration (chatter), which is the primary cause of chipping.

Can I run Nobeve carbide skiving cutters dry (without coolant)?

Yes,but we dont't recommend it . Dry cutting with W-series has strictly requirement with the machine tool. Skiving involves high sliding friction, and high-pressure oil is essential to lubricate the cutting edge and flush away chips immediately to protect the BALINIT® ALTENSA coating.

What is the recommended cutting speed for the W-Series?

We recommend a cutting speed (Vc) of 120–300 m/min and a feed rate of 0.2–0.5 mm/rev. These parameters optimize the performance of the carbide substrate, balancing thermal stability with efficient material removal.

Do you provide regrinding parameters for local maintenance?

Yes. To save on logistics, we do not require shipping tools back. Instead, we provide a full Technical Data Package (DXF profiles and edge preparation specs) with every order, allowing your local coating center to restore the tool to Nobeve factory standards.

Are these tools compatible with Turn-Mill (Multi-Tasking) centers?

Yes. The W-Series is designed for both dedicated Power Skiving machines and Turn-Mill composite machines. This allows you to complete turning and gear cutting in a single setup (“Done-in-One”), minimizing run-out errors.
